(HealthDay News) -- Debate about the ideal age to retire has been going on for years. But with the U.S. economy in a dramatic slump, the flip side of that question -- how old is too old to work? -- has become uppermost in many people's minds.
April is Parkinson Awareness Month! This year Sanitasole, Marco Island's Premier Place for Senior Health, will honor the month by participating in Tulip Tuesday, April 7, a day which honors Dr. James Parkinson, the British physician who, in 1817, identified the symptoms of what would come to be called Parkinson’s. The red tulip was developed as a symbol of hope by Dutch horticulturist J.W.S Vander Wereld, who had the disease. Each year on Tulip Tuesday, communities across the nation sell bunches of tulips as a symbol of solidarity with those who endure the challenges of Parkinson's. The cost per bunch is $20.00 (delivery is $5.00). If you would like to purchase a bouquet for yourself, your business and/or a loved one, please call the Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida (PASFI) at 239.254.7791. Marco Islanders can pick up their tulips mid-afternoon on Tulip Tuesday at Sanitasole, 218 S. Barfield Drive, or arrange for delivery.
Diabetes is a very common and also very serious disease, but it can be managed if you are knowledgeable about how it may present itself.
It is estimated that at least 21 million Americans are affected and at risk for complications, and another 54 million have pre-diabetes (a slightly elevated blood sugar), which puts them at risk for developing the disease, according to the American Diabetes Association.
