Paula Camposano Robinson, RN author and elder care expert and long time Marco Islander announces the release of this new book "Priceless Caregiving: Stories of Elder Care Success, Courage and Strength."  Paula is a contributing author in one of the most uplifting books to be written all year.  Now released in paperback, Priceless Caregiving can be ordered through Amazon.com or by contacting her office locally.

"I am so proud to have contributed to such a positive and insightful piece of literature that will help so many baby-boomers, seniors, and adult children of aging parents who are struggling with questions and concerns about an aging loved one.” states Camposano Robinson.

The stories are true, heartwarming, and life-changing.... showing how elder care services of all kinds have impacted the lives of senior clients and families.

"Priceless Caregiving" will take you on an emotional journey that gives you inspiration and hope. The stories themselves specifically show how elder care has saved seniors' families from stress, worry, and sleepless nights. The stories also teach all of us the importance of helping our aging loved ones maintain independence and choice for life.  Readers will be amazed athow caregivers have not only changed the lives of seniors, but also their family members.

This insightful and inspirational book dispels the common myths and misconceptions associated with elder care services. The real-life stories within will help the reader discover how positive and motivating having a team of caregivers and a support system can be for the entire family. Priceless Caregiving reinforces how important it is to choose a reputable elder care service that cares about their clients like family, and provides information to help you make the right decisions for you and your aging loved ones.

The book was compiled by Valerie VanBooven RN BSN who adds, "We owe great thanks and tribute to the tireless caregivers who wrote this book. Each contribution is from a real life hero for our senior population."

About Sanitasole Sanitasole (Sah-NEE-Tah-Solay) loosely translated from Italian to “Healthy Living Under the Sun” is Marco Island’s Premier Place for Senior Health. It is the brainchild of the Paula and Richard Robinson that began with a dream dating back to the mid 1990’s. With more than 50 years of combined professional experience in Clinical Health Care and Administration, Paula and Richard decided to dedicate themselves to making a positive impact on the lives of the Senior Community in Marco Island.

“When we designed and developed the Sanitasole model we wanted to effectively provide a one stop shop, blending skilled patient centered services (known to extend or stop the decline of the aging process) in an atmosphere of trust and affection but in a homelike setting. Interaction with others outside of the home is just one aspect of making the experience more fulfilling, Camposano Robinson said.”

“Day Services are one of healthcares 'best kept secrets', and we knew we needed to have excellent activities and programs to include: music therapy, gardening, pet therapy, computer stations, a library, a fitness center and we included a heated hydrotherapy pool to help enhance the quality of life of our seniors”.  We have an enriching Tuscan inspired environment with many social activities and programs, and although challenging, they are learning opportunities for clients to seek out new hobbies or goals. While some clients interact with others their own age and with the same psychological capabilities, we know we all age differently; some seniors may be taking a morning swim at age 90 while others require assistance with Activities of Daily Living. Sanitasole accommodates both.

Camposano Robinson is quick to admit, however, that “no matter how well structured and appealing the programs, a deep sense of empathy, compassion and respect is what helps clients gain self-esteem and self expressions. This then allows for a positive outlet for energy, emotions and personal choices – this is when you know the programs work” she said. Ones’ attitude and how kind you are to an individual is what will ultimately be remembered! Sanitasole prides itself on its excellent reputation and Paula’s 30 plus years of nursing care in the Marco community. Licensed by the FL Agency for Healthcare Administration in 2007, Sanitasole has been offering a broad range of health care programs specifically tailored to the personalized needs of our clients.

With offerings of Senior Care Management, Adult Day Health Services, Wellness and Personal Training, and Rehabilitation, Home Healthcare and Hospice Referral programs, Sanitasole has been able to provide Marco Island and its’ surrounding communities with a caring, devoted and empathic team of professionals to those who want to remain active and socially engaged, as well as others requiring ongoing healthcare management.

Whether in our Adult Day Health Program or one of our companion services, Sanitasoles’ skilled caregivers are experienced in assisting senior clients who need help with activities of daily living, those with Alzheimer's/dementia, stroke, multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease and many other conditions related to the aging process.  We know each client is unique, thus we develop a customized plan of care to help them achieve a fuller, longer and happier life while giving respite to a family caregiver or loved one.

Sanitasole Senior Services, Marco Island, FL- Are you one of America’s Family Caregivers? November is National Family Caregivers Month! Sanitasole Salutes you!
Rosalyn Carter said it best: “There are only four kinds of people in the world – those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers”. Caregivers are needed for family members of all ages. With appropriate information and support, family caregivers can help their loved ones across the lifespan.
More than 50 Million people, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or aged family member or friends during any given year.
So, who are family caregivers … It’s a complicated question and answers may vary depending upon whom you ask. Physicians may give an answer different from social workers and researchers may undoubtedly quote statistics. However, if you really want to know who America’s family caregivers are, you need to ask them directly.
The typical family caregiver is a 46-year-old-woman caring for her widowed mother who does not live with her. She is married and employed. Approximately 60percent of family caregivers are women.
1.4 million Children ages 8-18 provide care for an adult relative; 72% are caring for a parent or grandparent. Fortunately, most are not the sole caregiver.

America’s family caregivers are family, friends, partners, and neighbors. To better understand the experience and the meaning of being a family caregiver go to The National Family Caregiver Story Project. The NFCA Story Project is a collection of first-person accounts by family caregivers. It is the gateway to becoming part of a growing group of family caregivers who have reached out to share their thoughts, feelings and find solace in the words of others. As you read the stories of America’s family caregivers you may find yourself nodding in recognition and find the answers to whom the caregivers really are.
Research and Statistics:

NFCA Research and Reports have focused largely, but not exclusively, on those family caregivers who provide significant levels of care. One aspect of our research has sought to better understand how to communicate effectively with family caregivers, since so many are uncomfortable with calling themselves anything other than a spouse, a parent, or a loving adult child.

There is an extensive body of family caregiver research available on many different aspects of the caregiving experience. You can find out more about the financial, physical and emotional impact of family caregiving as well as information on family caregivers at work and in the healthcare system in the Caregiver Statistics section of this site.
What is Family Caregiving?
Simply put, family caregiving is the act of assisting someone you care about who is chronically ill or disabled and who is no longer able to care for themselves. Family caregiving is the bedrock upon which this country’s healthcare system depends. The services provided by family caregivers represent 80% of all home care services and are conservatively valued at $375 billion a year.

Caregiving in the 21st Century – Then and Now is fundamentally different than it was in the biblical times when the commandment to Honor thy Mother and Father was created. People died at a much younger age and often times without the benefits of medication and the advanced medical technologies as we see today.

One thing that hasn’t changed however, are the Common Bonds that tie all family caregivers together.

Family caregivers are the practitioners of family caregiving. It is hard to separate one from the other. Caregiver Statistics will provide insights into both.

What is Family Caregiving as described in a poem by Rose Marie Trosper, an NFCA volunteer with the Caregiver Community Action Network (CCAN) and a family caregiver from Arkansas. This is what family caregiving means to Rose…
Caregiver’s Eyes
By Rose Marie Trosper
A caregiver’s eyes tell me everything I need to know.
Their sadness, their fatigue,
the overwhelming feelings that consume them.
How do I tell them how much I care,
how much I would do… if I could?
These precious souls with hearts of gold,
forgotten by those who should be so close,
and, yet, they are so distant.
Do they know how often I feel the burning questions,
those that haunt their every waking moment?
The ones that ask… why me,
how much longer… how much more?
I would change their world if only I could,
if only miracles were mine to give,
if only I held the power,
if only I had wings.
Don’t they know they already have their own wings,
and that they teach me so much?
More than I could ever offer to them in return.
Do they know I watch over them
as best I can with the watchful eyes
of a mother, a friend?
Or, that they are in my heart,
each one so cherished, so unique.
A caregiver’s eyes tell me everything I need to know.
But every now and again,
I see a faint smile, a knowing look
that says…… thank you, my friend.
It is in those moments that I know
I am where I should be.
And, for as long as they need me….
this is where I can be found.

Healthy Aging Month National Adult Services Week

The theme of National Adult Day Services Week, September 20-26, “Enhancing Lives and Empowering People,” is directly aligned with the celebration of September as Healthy Aging Month. “It’s a perfect fit,” said Paula Camposano-Robinson, vice president of clinical services at Sanitasole, Marco Island’s Premier Place for Senior Health. “Our goal throughout the month is to raise awareness of just how important it is to engage in healthy living. Our Adult Day Services (ADS) programs are a means of assisting that process and encouraging commitment.”
