Tulip Tuesday Sanitasole Participates April 7 2009
April is Parkinson Awareness Month! This year Sanitasole, Marco Island's Premier Place for Senior Health, will honor the month by participating in Tulip Tuesday, April 7, a day which honors Dr. James Parkinson, the British physician who, in 1817, identified the symptoms of what would come to be called Parkinson’s. The red tulip was developed as a symbol of hope by Dutch horticulturist J.W.S Vander Wereld, who had the disease. Each year on Tulip Tuesday, communities across the nation sell bunches of tulips as a symbol of solidarity with those who endure the challenges of Parkinson's. The cost per bunch is $20.00 (delivery is $5.00). If you would like to purchase a bouquet for yourself, your business and/or a loved one, please call the Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida (PASFI) at 239.254.7791. Marco Islanders can pick up their tulips mid-afternoon on Tulip Tuesday at Sanitasole, 218 S. Barfield Drive, or arrange for delivery.
